A Sunday Song from Sharon
Hey there Sunday Song Fam and Friends,
Let me ask you a question. Do you struggle with forgiveness? Is there anyone today for whom you are just plotting revenge because he or she wronged you? Are you waiting for God to just get ’em and get ’em good? Come on, you can admit it. Or maybe you struggle with forgiving yourself.
Forgiveness can be tough. When we are feeling hurt, it sometimes seems easier to just sulk and hold a grudge. But that is not what our Lord commands. He asks that we “be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32). And in Colossians 3:13 it says, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Wow, God, can we really do that? Seems impossible but it is important that we do so, and we can with God’s help. Today’s Sunday Song says, “Lord I want a heart that loves everybody–even my enemies…”–wait, what?! Seems even more impossible!
But nothing is impossible with God! So as you consider forgiveness of yourself or others today, I encourage you to:
- Erase frustration & embrace freedom
- Erase anger & embrace admiration
- Erase evilness & embrace empathy
- Erase rejection and embrace reconciliation
And then expect God to give you His peace about the situation. Oh yes! Lord, we ask that, like you, we each come to have a heart that forgives. Be blessed.
